About 1,500 Employees Covered Under New Agreement
CHARLESTON, W. Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR) and the Communications Workers of
America (CWA) announced today that West Virginia locals have ratified
the labor agreement the two parties reached on Aug. 3. The new contract
will expire in August 2017.
“With the CWA members’ approval of this contract, Frontier is positioned
to continue its growth and investment in West Virginia’s communications
infrastructure to provide superior communications services to the
residents and businesses of West Virginia,” Frontier Communications
President and Chief Operating Officer Dan McCarthy said. “We have made
remarkable progress during the past four years through the hard work and
dedication of our CWA partners and our CWA-represented work force. This
is welcome news, especially as we approach the Labor Day holiday weekend.
“Frontier is a customer-focused company, and our employees fulfill our
commitment to deliver customers the best possible communications
services and values,” he added. “I want to thank both bargaining teams
for their hard work and our employees for ratifying the contract.”
CWA District 2-13 Vice President Ed Mooney said: “CWA understands the
critical role Frontier’s employees and our members play in providing
West Virginia with communications services. CWA members have a rich
history of supporting Mountain State Customers. This agreement allows
CWA members to continue this tradition while maintaining great middle
class jobs in WV.
The agreement covers about 1,500 West Virginia employees who work in 42
West Virginia counties and serve more than 500,000 residential and
business customers. They include customer service technicians, network
support technicians, construction technicians, call center
representatives and many other employees who support service delivery in
the state.
“Frontier is committed to job growth in the Charleston Contact Center.
The Charleston Center provides excellent customer service to the
customers in West Virginia and quality employment opportunities in the
region,” McCarthy said. “The commitment to job growth in the Charleston
Center reaffirms Frontier’s commitment in the value of a 100 percent
U.S.-based work force.
“Both Frontier and the CWA understand that we are in a highly
competitive business, and we want to be able to deliver the best
possible customer service and products,” McCarthy said. “The contract
provides appropriate management flexibility and rewards our employees
with an attractive compensation and benefits package.”
The parties started contract negotiations in June 2013. The contract
expired in August 2013. Frontier and the CWA worked on numerous and
complex issues during a series of contract extensions.
McCarthy said Frontier and its CWA-represented employees are committed
to working efficiently and effectively as they provide customers with
leading-edge communications services.
“Frontier has invested more than $500 million in West Virginia, building
a robust middle-mile network, dramatically expanding broadband service
and improving our voice services to thousands of customers.” McCarthy
said. “Together with the employees represented by the CWA and the
Frontier management, we look forward to serving the citizens of West
Virginia with the best communications products and services that they
deserve for their lives and livelihoods.
“The men and women of Frontier understand that they are playing a key
role in fostering community and economic growth in the state,” he said.
“Our employees represented by the CWA are devoted to their communities
and demonstrate their generosity on a daily basis through their
volunteerism and personal giving.”
