MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Frontier Communications (NYSE: FTR) representatives met with the Public
Service Commission of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. on February 22nd
to provide a status of the company’s transition since July 1, 2010. The
emphasis was on broadband investments made to date in Frontier operating
exchanges and future broadband plans for 2011.
John Swallow, Senior Vice President and General Manager for the
Carolinas and Stan Pace, Director of State Government Relations, told
the Commissioners that broadband deployment projects increase household
accessibility, increase bandwidth to customers and support the acquired
properties with upgrades to the infrastructure. Over the last six months
of 2010:
- Frontier made a total capital investment of $9,069,913 in South
Carolina.
-
Twenty new high-speed sites were deployed across the state. Several
other sites are scheduled for turn-up over the new few weeks.
-
The percentage of households with access to high-speed Internet in
Frontier’s service area increased from 46.4% in June to 72.2% at year
end.
Swallow emphasized that the company’s goal is to increase this
percentage to 85.5 by the end of 2011 and to keep people connected using
the latest technology available in both rural and urban markets that
Frontier serves.
Frontier acquired South Carolina exchanges from Verizon in 2010,
including the Grand Strand area and numerous inland markets such as
Georgetown County, Simpsonville, Sumter, Walterboro and Winnsboro. The
company employs 178 individuals in South Carolina.
