RANSON, W. Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Frontier Communications recently installed High-Speed Internet service
for Mr. Frank Buckles, America's last surviving WWI Veteran and Charles
Town resident. Mr. Buckles has his own Internet home page at www.frankbuckles.org
that focuses on his life and other veterans who sacrificed for our
freedom.
Mr. Buckles celebrated his 109th birthday on February 1,2010.
He has served our nation as a World War I veteran, a World War II POW
and as a farmer. He has received the World War I Victory medal, the Army
of Occupation of Germany medal, and France's Legion of Honor medal,
which was established by Napoleon and is France's highest award.
In 2008, Mr. Buckles became the Honorary Chairman of the World War I
Memorial Foundation, an organization dedicated to establishing a
national World War I memorial in Washington, DC. In March 2008, Mr.
Buckles visited the DC War Memorial and on December 3, 2009, he appeared
before Congress to advocate for restoration of that memorial and its
rededication as a National and District of Columbia World War I Memorial.
During World War II he worked for a company in the Philippines and was
captured by the Japanese in 1942. After three and a half years in
captivity, he was released on February 23, 1945. He settled at the Gap
View Farm in West Virginia in 1953 and lives there today with his
daughter, Susannah, and her husband.
"In recognition of Mr. Buckles' service to our country, we are honored
to provide him with High-Speed Internet service and other Frontier
services at no cost," said Paul Espinosa, Frontier general manager.
"2014 marks the centennial of World War I, and we encourage everyone to
visit Mr. Buckles' website and learn more about him and the sacrifices
made by so many nearly 100 years ago."
