BLUEFIELD, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Frontier Communications Corporation (NYSE: FTR) today announced that
employees in West Virginia plan to gather at the West Virginia State
Capitol Rotunda at 1900 Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston at 10 a.m.
eastern on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in support of Frontier's agreement
to acquire Verizon telephone lines in West Virginia. The agreement also
includes access lines in 13 other states.
"Our employees know and believe in Frontier and its commitment to West
Virginia, especially to improving broadband availability and
penetration," said Ken Arndt, Senior Vice President and General Manager
of Frontier's East Region. "They are asked daily by Verizon customers,
`When will we get high-speed Internet access?' The answer is that the
process will start as soon as the acquisition is finalized. For that to
happen, the West Virginia Public Service Commission must approve the
transaction."
According to Arndt, many employees have expressed frustration with the
misstatements and untruths being perpetuated by the Communications
Workers of America (CWA) about the transaction. Arndt added, "The CWA
reaction is very disappointing. Recently the company and
IBEW-represented employees in West Virginia ratified a bargaining
agreement that reflected a commitment to address issues that were
priorities for both parties: the intense competition in the
telecommunications business, the challenging economic times, and the
importance of hiring and retaining the best employees with competitive
wages and benefits. "

competitive environment, Frontier is committed to working with all
