Frontier Communications Announces Expansion of Rural Broadband Services Through The Connect America Fund
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski Attends Ribbon-Cuttings in Three
Rural Properties in California and Nevada
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Celebrating its broadband expansion efforts via The Connect America
Fund, Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR) today hosted ribbon-cutting
events in three rural properties in Alpine County, California and Topaz
Lake and Douglas County, Nevada. Julius Genachowski, Chairman of the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), joined Maggie Wilderotter,
Chairman and CEO of Frontier Communications, other Frontier
representatives, tribal officials, and business and community leaders to
announce the availability of broadband in areas previously unserved.
"Broadband services are critical to economic growth and a vital
community," noted Mrs. Wilderotter. "Our goal at Frontier is to ensure
that our customers, regardless of where they reside, enjoy the same
advanced services as consumers in major metro areas. Today, together
with Chairman Genachowski, we celebrate a vision for America that makes
broadband services ubiquitous, connecting rural customers with family,
friends and all the Internet offers. Education, healthcare, and
employment opportunities will expand as Frontier continues to increase
broadband availability in rural markets."
Celebratory events took place throughout the day as Mrs. Wilderotter and
Chairman Genachowski traveled to meet with customers and community
members in three locations:
Alpine County, California
Alpine County is a 100% rural county, where Frontier serves the
communities of Markleeville, Paynesville, Fredericksburg, Woodfords and
the Woodfords Community tribal area. Recently Frontier extended
broadband service with speeds up to 6 Mbps over a 44 square mile area to
623 households.
Topaz Lodge, Gardnerville, Nevada
The Connect America Fund (CAF) created by FCC reforms will help Frontier
provide broadband access to 423 households that are currently unserved.
Douglas County, Nevada
Frontier's service area covers approximately 729 square miles in Douglas
County. The company is in the process of extending broadband coverage to
more than 5,700 county households.
